This is my second pair of Brooks running shoes. I had the Glycerin model before. Compared to the Glycerin, the Ghost is heavier weight, and has a wider toe box, and has a little more cushioning/stability. I loved my Glycerins but wore them out. I wore my usual size 7.5 in the Glycerins and ordered an 8 in these since it said to buy a half size bigger. They fit great. Getting a high quality pair of running shoes is essential. When I bought these and ran in them for the first time after using my Nike and New Balance running shoes, I was amazed at the difference. These shoes have so much more cushioning than the $40-50 Nike and New Balance running shoes. When I ran in those, the fit was fine, but every time my foot hit the pavement, I felt it a little bit in my knee and shin and foot joints. But when I wear my Ghost running shoes, I don’t feel anything in my legs or feet. It’s like running on pillows. So if you want a shoe that protects your joints, I highly recommend the Brooks Ghost running shoes.

This is my third pair. I walk alot at work and abuse my shoes. We get a shoe allowance every 6 months to buy any shoe we want. What makes this shoe so good for me is the large toe-box, it’s not the best looking shoe on the market, but if you’re looking for comfort and have a wide foot I think you will like it.

I will buy these shoes again! My feet and legs are comfortable even after having these shoes on all day. I did buy them 1/2 size larger than I usually wear in a shoe and I probably didn’t need to do that. Next time I will buy my normal size because they are nice and wide I don’t think I need to have them longer. I roll my feet in when I walk and it has caused me to have a lot of bursitis in my hip area. My feet ache frequently like arthritis and these shoes definitely relieve that. Good walkers!

I sometimes have trouble finding light, comfortable running shoes that are reasonably priced and not designed for kids (bright colors, lightning bolts, see-through cushion bubbles, etc.). So I’ve worn 497’s for years. This is the replacement model, and although New Balance has updated them somewhat, they still have the toned-down styling I like. Most of all, they are well made and they still make my feet feel very good.

I’m no athlete but these are great for those of us with foot problems. After 20+ years of standing on my feet working as a floral designer I have flat feet and over-pronation problems that in turn affect my back, hips, knees,etc.. I HATE shopping for shoes now. It takes hours of wading thru web sites (I don’t even bother with retail stores anymore) reading the reviews of others with problems like mine,and back and forthing between sites comparing prices.It makes me crazy to say the least. But I digress. The adiStar Formotion sneakers are now on my list of shoes I can wear and be happy all day. I’m now a nanny to twin boys and spend all day on my feet pushing them in their stroller, chasing them around, and keeping a house clean,(multiply everything by two). I will say that I wear a pair of non-prescription insoles (SOLE ultra) too because I have found that the original liners are never worth the powder to blow them up. Lastly, they don’t look like old lady shoes, in fact they look like they’re ready for some serious athletics, I just let people think thats why I wear’em!

I was a big fan of the old “trigon 5″ rides, which you can still get. They were my first official running shoe, I got at a running specialty store. Great shoe, I had them for about a year and they wore well. I bounced around to a couple other brands and models, I thought I should try them out. I regret that now.

I bought these about a month ago, they are just like I remembered! I have normal feet and am a heavier runner 215 when I bought the shoes, 180 now. I think most people find that the heal is somewhat firm, which I liked. They have a nice big toe box with a good overall fit. Order them on the large side. I wear a 11.5 usually, sometimes a 12, I ordered a 12 and the fit was perfect. These shoes are extremely well ventilated, so your tootsies will get cold during winter time runs.

Addition: Keep an eye on the prices of these shoes, certain colors and sizes are super cheap. I bought a second pair of the blue and silver ones for $40. A really good deal, I couldn’t find anywhere else.

Stiff Shoes, April 4, 2009

I bought these shoes based on so many positive reviews, but was disappointed with what I received. The material (the upper material – leather and synthetic) used to make the shoe is very stiff. I feel I would have to wear them for a long time to “break them in” and get them soft enough to enjoy my walks. On my right shoe the crease by the toes is formed in an odd direction and when I bend my foot the crease presses into my toe joints causing discomfort. The true test is when I take them off and put on a different pair of walking shoes that I bought just a month earlier from a department store. The department store shoes feel like heaven compared to the New Balance Walking shoes. I am training for a 39 mile walk and need several pairs of shoes for the walk as back up shoes in case of blisters or inclement weather, etc. I was going to use the New Balance shoes for my main walking shoe, when I ordered them, but after wearing them they are now my 3rd back up pair. I will use them out of desperation during the walk, basically when all else fails.

These are very comfortable for walking. I’ve had many pairs of New Balance Sneakers and these are the most comfy I’ve had. I did take the advice of other reviewers and ordered a 1/2 size up. I’m usually a solid 8m. Got the 8 1/2 and they fit perfectly. Walking 5 miles is a breeze. And they are good looking shoes, a little bulky around the ankle, but that is part of the good support. highly recommend.

Great Shoe for the Heavy Runner, July 24, 2009

I am a 20+ miles per week runner with two marathons under my belt in the last year. Being 6′1″ and 220 lbs plus a “heavy stepper” doesn’t make it easy to find a shoe. I have tried most brands of “true” running shoes (Asics, Pearl Izumi, Brooks) plus many Nike running shoes always opting for the “cushioning” model and have liked other shoes as long as I keep my distance down. Once over 5 miles, I start to feel the difference. Once over 10 miles, no other shoe even compares.

I have ran with Mega-Bounce for over the last 2 years.

Pros –
Best cushioning heal to toe of any shoe I have ever tried.
The cushioning doesn’t effect performance. It’s not like running with a down pillow attached to your foot, more like a spring.
Durability is awesome.

Cons –
Inherent in the design that makes it the “best cushioning” is the height of the shoe off the ground. This height makes increases probability ankle twists/sprains.
Narrow toe box. But I do have a fat foot. The ’09s are better than the ’08s because the mesh is more flexible than the stiff nylon, but still could use some improvement or at least a width size choice.

I’m not much of an expert on running shoes but I really like the feel of these shoes. Great grip and support. The best running shoe I have ever purchased. Only negative is that if you run in gravel or rocky terrain, rocks will get caught in the shoe and be annoying and sometimes poke into your heel. So all I do is avoid running on rocks.

As with Asics in general, a good product at a reasonable cost. I have been walking marathons the last four years and doing the preliminary training walks. I have previously relied on Asics running shoes. I don’t notice a big difference to be honest. I liked the running shoes (2120, 2130, 2140’s) and I like these, too.
